purchase Bird feeders  online and enjoy the show!

There are so many different kinds of bird feeders on the market.  How could you possibly know which one to choose?  The different types of bird feeder hold a variety of seeds and thus attract different birds, so before you purchase birdfeeders online decide which birds you want to attract.

Hanging feeders and tube seed feeders are for birds which do not like to eat off the ground.  Songbirds such as chickadees, finches, titmice and nuthatches fall into this category.  They like to perch, take a seed and fly off to eat it.  Tube seed feeders are a good choice for them also, as the food is protected from the elements and predators such as squirrels.  Hang them with wire so the squirrels can't chew through it.

Platform feeders will attract birds which feed in flocks above the ground.  These types of feeders should be set on posts or attached to a house or garage.  If you want to watch the birds feed, place a feeder on or near a windowsill.

Suet feeders attract birds such as chickadees, nuthatches and cardinals.  Suet is an excellent food source for birds in the winter, and is a favorite of woodpeckers.

Hummingbird feeders are also available, and will attract more than just hummingbirds.  Orioles, tanagers and woodpeckers also enjoy the nectar placed inside.

If you don't know which feeder to choose, purchase one of each.  Space them out and erect them at different levels to minimize conflicts between birds.  You will attract a wider variety of birds, as birds prefer to feed at different heights.  If you own a cat, place your bird feeders away from low shrubbery or your bird feeder may provide dinner for your cat.

And don't forget the largest bird feeder of all - the ground.  Not all birds will eat out of feeders so if you're ignoring the ground, you will be missing birds such as sparrows and doves.  Just throw down some mixed seed and enjoy the show!
