Bird perches make songbirds sing  ....

If you love listening to songbirds sing then try building bird perches in your garden.  These can be set outside your window so you can watch the birds more closely.  A bird perch can be as simple as a branch or it can be some kind of elaborate roosting pole that you buy at a gardening store.  You can also extend the sides of your birdhouses or feeders by building bird perches out of something as simple as dowling rods or a piece of wrought iron.

However there are some things to consider when building bird perches.  For one thing, don't believe the old gardening legend that wrapping poles is somehow good for wild birds.  It is good for large birds like falcons or parrots (for sharpening their claws) but it will simply hurt a tiny birds foot.  The best solution is to use a round piece of wood that is small enough for the bird's claws to wrap comfortably around.  You can also string rope from your freestanding bird house to an eave or a tree limb to create a perch from which several birds can sing their hearts out.
